Five Duhawks Land on All-Conference Baseball Team

May 18, 2022 - The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced its All-Conference Baseball Team for the 2022 season on Wednesday afternoon, seeing five the from the RV Loras College baseball team (32-11, 15-9 A-R-C) receive the honor in Ethan Peters, Joe Egan, Daniel Rogers, Luke Fennelly and Max McCallum. The Duhawks saw historic success in the 2022 season, finishing the year with the most wins in a single season with a milestone victory on March 1 against the University of Iowa Hawkeyes

Peters, a senior left-handed closer from Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., earned his second All-Conference nod of his career as a First Teamer after a breakout season on the mound for the Duhawks. Proving to be one of the most dominant pitchers in all of NCAA Division III, the senior hurler dished 46.2 innings, racking up a team-leading 66 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .187 batting average. Peters closed out the regular season as the leader in Division III in saves with a single-season record 13 saves on the year, catapulting him to the top of the program's all-time saves record book with 19 to his name. 

Egan, a senior center fielder from Chicago, Ill. received his first All-Conference First Team honor of his career in the purple and gold, serving as a key piece of the Duhawks' defensive efforts in the outfield while equally contributing at the plate. Starting in all 43 games of the season, the outfielder was perfect in the field with a total of 102 putouts with a pair of assists without committing a single error on the season for a 1.000 fielding percentage. At the plate, Egan had a .287 batting average with 45 hits on the season with four doubles, four triples, three home runs and seven stolen bases. Egan wraps up his career tied for the ninth-most at bats in a single season and tied for the fourth-most triples in a single season. 

Rogers, a sophomore designated hitter and catcher from Grayslake, Ill., received his second All-Conference accolade as a First Team honoree after continuing to dominate at the plate for the Duhawks. Receiving Second Team honors in his first collegiate season, the sophomore slugger led the A-R-C with a stellar .418 batting average, rifling off the second-most hits in the league (66). Starting in all 43 games of the season, Rogers tallied 15 doubles and four homers, driving in 46 runs with a .589 slugging percentage and .521 on-base percentage. Rogers's batting average puts him tied for the fourth-best single season batting average in program history while he finished the season just one hit behind the single season hits record and second in most RBIs in a single season. 

Fennelly, a fifth-year senior shortstop from Davenport, Iowa, caps off his career with his second All-Conference nod of his career after raking in Position Player of the Year in 2021. A staple of the Duhawks all-around successes defensively and in the lineup, Fennelly cemented himself in the record books as one of the greatest all-around players in Loras College baseball history. This season at the plate, Fennelly posted a .290 batting average on 51 hits with 16 doubles, three triples, three homers and 26 RBIs while leading scoring a team-high 44 runs. Fennelly stepped into the batter's box for a record-setting 185 at bats and came in tied for the third-most doubles in a season, fourth in single-season stolen bases (22) and third in single-season runs scored. In his five-year career for Loras, Fennelly sits atop the program record booth in career at bats (644), third in career hits (193), tied for second in career doubles (41), seventh in career triples (8), third in career career home runs (16), third in career stolen bases (55), the career runs scored leader (150) and fifth in career RBIs (97). In the field this year, Fennelly posted a .942 fielding percentage with 72 putouts, 107 assists and 14 double plays. 

McCallum, a freshman left fielder from Aurora, Ill., reels in his first All-Conference award of his career in his first collegiate season for the Duhawks. Starting in 42 games of the 43 total games of the season, the left fielder posted a .279 batting average on 43 hits with six doubles, a triple and 23 RBIs, including a thrilling walk-off RBI single on Apr. 4 against the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves to secure a 9-8 victory in the second game of the doubleheader to take the series two games to one. In the outfield, McCallum was a spectacle to see all year, making a number of diving grabs and catches on the move, recording 61 putouts for a .970 fielding percentage. 

One of the best all-around teams in the conference, the Duhawks closed out the year as the No. 2 seed in the A-R-C Tournament, finishing out the year with the best team batting average in the league (.312) and the best fielding percentage in the league (.974) with the fewest number of errors on the season (38).
