Duhwaks Celebrate All-America Honors at NCAA DIII Championship

GENEVA, Ohio (May 28, 2022) - In the meet the team has been preparing for all season long, the Loras College men's track and field team saw All-American finishes from Mike Jasa, Carter Oberfoell, and the 4-by-400-meter relay at the 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
 
Holden Murphy got Day One started in the discus throw, tossing a mark of 45.79m to finish 17th in his first national championship experience. Both Ryan Harvey and Wyatt Kelly got the Duhawks started on the track in the 1,500-meter run as Harvey ran the third-fastest time in the prelims, going 3:49.98, to advance to Saturday's final, and Kelly finished in 13th, just shy of Saturday's final, running 3:51.32. The 4-by-400-meter relay of Josh Smith, Ted Kruse, Oberfoell, and Jasa clocked a time of 3:13.27 that puts them eighth in program history, auto-qualifying into Saturday's final as well.
 
Matt Bandy got Day Two started in his first national championship experience, competing in the high jump and finished 15th, jumping 1.92m. Both Jasa and Oberfoell advanced into the 800-meter final, running 1:50.62 and 1:50.72, respectively.
 
On the final day of competition, Harvey finished with a time of 3:49.11 in the 1,500-meter run to finish in ninth, just shy of All-America honors. Jasa led the pair of All-American honors in the 800-meter run, clocking 1:50.85 in fifth place while Oberfoell finished in eighth place, running 1:51.32 for his first solo All-America nod. The 4-by-400-meter relay of Smith, Kruse, Oberfoell and Jasa capped off the meet with a time of 3:12.46 to get fifth-place and earn all-American honors as well.
 
The Duhawks ended the meet with nine points, finishing 26th overall, in arguably the most competitive and difficult championship to qualify for and place at in recent history. The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the national title, scoring 73 points, with John Carroll University finishing in second place with 48 points. Massachusetts Institute of Technology came in third scoring 40 points, and University of Wisconsin-La Crosse finished with 32 points in fourth.
