Men's Track and Field Reworks Record Books at Dr. Tucker Open

May 7, 2022 – Competing in near perfect conditions for the final meet of the regular season, the Loras College men's track and field team made the most of it with multiple school records, nationally-ranked marks and another NCAA Division III all-time performance by Mike Jasa at the Dr. Tucker Open on Saturday.

Senior Matt Bandy started the Duhawks off strong with a huge clearance in the high jump, setting a personal best 2.04 meters to win the event and move up to No. 4 on Loras' all-time list which also positions himself 11th in Division III this season. Ryan Harvey improved on his school record and nationally-ranked mark in the 1,500-meter run, running a three-second improvement to win the race in 3:47.53. He now sits eighth in the nation this season. Wyatt Kelly finished just out of the top-three in fifth in the event but added himself onto Loras' all-time list with a time of 3:50.47, ranking fourth.

The excitement continued as Mike Jasa came away with a huge personal best as he went sub-1:50 for the first time outdoors, running 1:48.70 to retake the national lead and rank 12th in Division III. Carter Oberfoell also had a phenomenal race, running sub-1:50 for the first time in his career with a 1:49.57 to rank second in program history and fifth in Division III this season.

The 4-by-100-meter relay of Derik Bunten, Doyle Carroll, Dayvion Foreman and Josh Smith followed suit with a season-best time of 41.84 to win the event and Smith added a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash, running 10.62. He also finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.05. Ted Kruse won the 400-meter hurdles in 54.30 and finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.51. Derik Bunten won the long jump with a leap of 7.10 meters, moving into eighth all-time for the Duhawks. Ryan Rogers won the pole vault, clearing 4.70 meters and the 4-by-400-meter relay of Carson Vaske, Nate Sielaff, Oberfoell, and Jasa capped off the meet with a win with a time of 3:18.11.

Also adding top-three finishes were Raymond Venditti in the high jump with a jump of 1.92 meters and he added a third-place finish in the pole vault with a height of 4.55 meters. Holden Murphy finished second in the shot put with a throw of 14.72 meters and won the discus by more than two meters, throwing 48.32 meters. He currently ranks seventh nationally in the event, set earlier this season.

Loras returns home in less than one week to host the 2022 American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Championship, beginning May 12. The indoor conference champions, the Duhawks finished second at the 2021 championship and look to hoist its first outdoor trophy since 2005 on their home track.
