Sept. 10, 2022 – The Loras College women's tennis team (2-2, 0-1 A-R-C) opened American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play at home on Saturday with a tough matchup against the Coe College Kohawks (4-0, 4-0 A-R-C) and saw the match come down to a single match late in singles play to determine a victor as the Duhawks fell 5-4 to the Kohawks.
Loras took the early 2-1 lead in doubles play with
Sara Backus and
Dorothy Deans defeating Claudia Bilkey and Emma Lassen, 8-7 at the No. 2 spot and
Leia Papanicholas and
Caroline Hutchinson defeated Maria Bello Escobar and Courtney Carstensen, 8-6 at No. 3 doubles. The Kohawks surged ahead to take the lead and secure the match with four-straight wins in singles play but the Duhawks posted victories at No. 2 singles as
Lauren Diiulio defeated Jania Carter-Johnson 6-1, 7-6 and Papanicholas secured the win at the No. 6 match against Jaden Fuqua 6-1, 6-2.
The Duhawks continue A-R-C action on Tuesday, Sept. 13, hosting defending A-R-C champions Luther College at 3:30 P.M. at the Tucker Tennis Courts.
