Women's Tennis Takes Two Versus Greenville, Webster

GREENVILLE, Iowa (Sept. 17, 2022) – The Loras College women's tennis team (4-3, 0-2 A-R-C) collected a pair of non-conference victories on Saturday, cruising to an 8-1 win against Greenville University (2-2) and a 6-3 win against Webster University (3-2).

In the opening match of the day against the host Panthers, the Duhawks swept doubles action with an 8-4 win for Isabel Schwabe and Lauren Diiulio at the No. 1 spot against Mireia Birosta and Addison Brannon, Clair Moore and Dorothy Deans defeating Callie Adkins and Natalia Higashi, 8-7, at No. 2 doubles and Caroline Hutchinson and Leia Papanicholas taking an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles against Stephanie Kamp and Sarah Brannon. The Panthers took the No. 1 singles match but it was all Loras the rest of the way with Diiulio defeating A. Brannon, 7-6, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, Moore earning a 6-3, 6-2 win against Kamp at No. 3, and Sara Backus defeating Adkins, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4. Hutchinson added a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles against Higashi and Papanicholas scored a 6-4, 6-1 win against S. Brannon at the No. 6 spot.

The Duhawks posted a comeback win in the second match of the day against Webster, dropping the first two doubles matches to the Gorlocks before Hutchinson and Papanicholas secured an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles against Awa Diallo and Nadia Giacomini. Webster took the No. 1 singles match as their only win in singles as Diiulio, Moore, Backus, and Papanicholas improved to 2-0 on the day and Deans added a win at No. 6 singles in a tiebreaker, taking down Bailee Pineda 4-6, 6-4, 10-6. Diilio defeated Bailey Higgins 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, Moore took the 7-6, 6-1 win against Kylie Chitwood at No. 3, Backus won her No. 4 match, 6-2, 6-3 against Maddie Mena and Papanicholas won 7-5, 6-0 at No. 5 singles against Madeleine Olejnik.

The Duhawks will compete next at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championship starting Thursday, Sept. 22. The championship is hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College.
