No.17/(RV) Duhawks Fall 3-1 on the Road to UW-Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. (Sept. 21, 2022) – The Warhawks came out on top of the Hawk Cup battle on Wednesday night as the No.17/(RV) Loras College men's soccer team fell 3-1 to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on the road.

The loss marks the second straight road loss for Loras (4-2), which just jumped into the top 25 of the United Soccer Coaches rankings on Tuesday. UW-Whitewater improved to 3-3 overall with the win and earned the Warhawks their fifth consecutive Hawk Cup win.

Only five total shots were taken between the two sides in the first half, but each side managed to capitalize once as the Warhawks got on the board first with an Evan Donini goal in the 26th minute.

Loras would respond back quickly as freshman forward Taylor Sowell found the net for his second goal of the season in the 31st minute. Senior midfielder Felipe Ramirez tallied the assist on the equalizer that sent the two sides into the halftime break all knotted at 1-1.

The Warhawks took another lead in the 56th minute as Jacob Mouille got an assist from Jalen Holley. That goal proved to be the game-winner despite the Duhawks having chances to tie later in the half.

UW-Whitewater tacked on an additional goal in the 89th minute as Duhawk goalkeeper Owen Johnson had to vacate the goal and come out beyond the box to attempt to defend a long pass. With the Duhawks pressing forward looking for a game-tying goal, it left them vulnerable on the back end as Holley cashed in on the insurance goal.

The Warhawks totaled 10 shots to Loras' eight while Loras earned eight corner kick opportunities to Whitewater's five.

Loras returns home this Saturday, Sept. 24, for the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) opener when they face Nebraska Wesleyan University at 5 P.M. The game kicks off a doubleheader night of soccer as part of the fifth annual Latinx Heritage Night celebration.
