No. 17/(RV) Duhawks Blow By Prairie Wolves 5-0 on Saturday

Sept. 24, 2022 – The No. 17/(RV) Loras College men's soccer team left no doubts on the field Saturday night as the Duhawks opened American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play with a dominating 5-0 win over Nebraska Wesleyan University.

The Duhawks (5-2, 1-0) saw five different players score their five goals en route to taking down the Prairie Wolves (2-5-1, 0-1) on Loras College's 5th Annual Latinx Heritage Night.

This one was Duhawks all the way as they controlled the pace and finally capitalized on a scoring chance in the 36th minute when senior defender Jared Block sent a throw in into the box that set up senior defender Kyler Donovan with a scoring chance.  Donovan's strike was deflected by the goalkeeper but still found the net to put the Duhawks up 1-0.

The rout was on from there as senior midfielder Matt Williams added on just a few minutes later to send Loras into the halftime break with a 2-0 lead. Williams' goal marked his first of the season and just the second of his career.

Loras got organized and started fast in the second half and pushed its lead to 3-0 thanks to a sequence that led sophomore midfielder Michael Koutsopanagos to his second goal of the season.

Not long after, Koutsopanagos added an assist to his stat line as he led senior forward Reed Miklavcic to a goal to make it 4-0. The goal gave Miklavcic three on the season, which leads the Duhawks.

Loras saved the best for last as freshman forward Nicolò Spuri tallied the first goal of his collegiate career in the 87th minute on a pass from sophomore midfielder Owen Ivanuck.

Ivanuk and Koutsopanagos were joined in the assist column by Block, Michael Brandt, Lucas Sampson, and Taylor Sowell as the Duhawks were generous with the ball at the Rock Bowl Saturday night.

The Duhawks have little time to relish in this win as they head off to Eau Claire, Wis. tomorrow, Sept. 25, to face the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Kickoff versus the Blugolds is set for 3:30 P.M.
