EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Sept. 25, 2022) – The No. 17/(RV) Loras College men's soccer team couldn't get much going in its Sunday afternoon match against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire as the Duhawks were held scoreless by the Blugolds in a 1-0 contest.
The Duhawks (5-3) were held scoreless for the first time this year and this time came out on the losing end of a 1-0 contest after winning three such games earlier this season. The Blugolds (12-0) pitched their seventh shutout of the season and stayed undefeated with the victory.
Loras managed just two shots in the contest against the stout UW-Eau Claire defense, both of which coming in the second half. The two sides only totaled 10 shots for the match.
The only goal Loras surrendered came midway through the first half when a foul led to a penalty kick chance for Eau Claire's Nathan Donovan. Donovan managed to beat the Duhawk keeper
Owen Johnson to the keeper's left to net his 10
th goal of the season that proved to be the game-winner.
Johnson tallied five saves in the contest, the second-most for his career as a Duhawk, but it wasn't enough as the offense was stymied by the Blugolds. Only one Duhawk shot was on goal, coming in the 54
th minute from sophomore
Michael Koutsopanagos.
Loras heads north again this weekend when the Duhawks face the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday, Oct. 1. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 P.M.
