Sept. 3, 2022 – The Loras College men's tennis team (1-0) opened the fall portion of its schedule at home on Saturday and came away with a 7-2 win against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (0-1).
Thomas Kampmier and
Konnor Barth opened the afternoon with an 8-1 win against Connor Paullin and Hayden Schreier at No. 2 doubles before the Pointers took the No. 1 match to tie the score. Competing in his first collegiate match,
Lucas Healy teamed up with
Eian Coad at No. 3 doubles and defeated Dan Harris and Samuel Zapata, 8-2 to give the Duhawks the edge heading into singles play.
Stevens Point came away with the first singles win at the No. 2 spot but it was all Duhawks from there as
Kevin Blomquist defeated Steven Benoy 7-5, 6-1 at No. 1,
Sean Gelski defeated Paullin, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 and Barth took down Zapata 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5.
Kareem Kassas defeated Harris 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 6 position and
Gage Becker collected his first collegiate win at No. 3 singles against Schreier, 6-1, 6-2.
The Duhawks have a quick turnaround with the next match slated for Monday, Sept. 5 at St. Ambrose University. Matches in Davenport, Iowa are set to begin at 12 P.M.
