Men's Tennis Clipped in Close Contest at St. Ambrose

DAVENPORT, Iowa (Sept. 5, 2022) – Playing its second match in 48 hours to open the short fall schedule, the Loras College men's tennis team (1-1) dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to St. Ambrose University (2-0) on Monday afternoon.

The match was played in single-win format for doubles, meaning the team that came away with two or more wins in those matches collected one team point rather than each match scoring independently. The Duhawks secured a 7-5 win at the No. 3 spot with Lucas Healy and Eian Coad defeating Greyson Piotrowski and Connor Liebforth, but the Bees came back to win the doubles point with the No. 1 and 2 matches.

Leading 1-0 heading into singles, the Bees tacked on three more wins to seal the team victory but the Duhawks came away with three wins to challenge. Gage Becker improved to 2-0 to start his collegiate career, defeating Gianfranco Garcia at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-3 and Kareem Kassas took down Liebforth at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Konnor Barth swept Piotrowski, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 5 position.
The Duhawks play a double-header on Saturday, Sept. 17 for their final matches before the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Individual Tournament, traveling to Greenville, Ill. to take on Greenville University and Webster University.
