Box Score 2 GREENVILLE, Iowa (Sept. 17, 2022) – Competing in its last pair of matches of the fall season before taking on tournament play, the Loras College men's tennis team (2-2) split matches against Greenville University (2-0) and Webster University (2-3) on Saturday, falling to Greenville 6-3 and defeating the Gorlocks, 5-4.
The Duhawks started the day with an 8-5 win for
Kevin Blomquist and
Thomas Kampmier against Andres Sanchez and Rafael Rodriguez from Greenville, but the Panthers carried a 2-1 lead into singles action. The hosts won the No. 1-4 matches to secure the win but
Konnor Barth defeated Thibant Tignea in a marathon 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 showdown at No. 5 singles and
Kareem Kassas scored a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles against Santiago Jaimes.
Loras flipped the script for the second match of the day with a 2-1 lead through doubles play against Webster. Blomquist and Kampmier posted a 2-0 record with an 8-5 win against Matt Birchmeier and Alex Pinkston at No. 1 doubles and
Eian Coad and
Lucas Healy won the No. 3 match, 8-5, against Jack Forlenza and Nicholas Granada. In singles play, Blomquist held out for a 5-7, 7-6, 10-5 tiebreaker victory at No. 1 against Pinkston and Kassas defeated Robert McDaniel 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6 singles before Webster tied the match, 4-4, and it came down to Barth to seal the win, coming away with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles against Birchmeier.
The Duhawks will shift their attention to the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Individual Tournament beginning Friday, Sept. 23 in Omaha, Neb.
