WAVERLY/WATERLOO, Iowa – The Loras College men's tennis team wrapped up play at the American Rivers Conference Individual Tournament. Loras earned four total medals in the event.
In A-flight singles,
Hayden Martin took home third place honors. After earning a bye in the first round, Martin defeated Wartburg's John Gustafson, before defeating Ernest Alvarez Chedzot, 4-2, 5-4, before falling in the semis to Joshua Tiemann of Coe. Martin was able to rally in the third-place match, taking down Daniel Rohlman of Coe to earn the first medal for Loras.
In D-flight singles,
Zander Freeman worked his way through the bracket to finish runner-up. Freeman's first win came in the second round, where he took down Cohen Dannhoff 4-0, 4-2. Freeman followed that performance with a 4-1, 4-1 win over Connery Varsa in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Freeman was a 4-0, 4-1 winner over Buena Vista's Jeb Bathrick. Freeman ultimately fell to Central's Donovan Klish in the championship match.
The second runner-up finish came from
Evan Fine in the E-flight singles. In round one, Fine was a 4-1, 4-1 winner over Landyn Gibson, before defeating the number two seeded Danny Santoy from the University of Dubuque in the second round. Fine then defeated Noah Johnson 4-1, 4-1 to reach the championship match, where he fell to the one-seeded Aaron Meinders from Central.
In doubles action, the duo of
Horia Popa and
Andrew Day worked to a third-place finish in the B-flight. The duos first win came against Tyler Harger and Caleb Fast, 7-5, before facing off against a pair of teammates in quarterfinals and earning a 7-6 win. After falling in the semifinals, Horia and Day bounced back with a 7-5 win over UD's Seth Lamkin and Alexander Hardin to earn a third-place medal.
