Sept. 8, 2022 – An offensive onslaught for the Loras College men's soccer team sent the Duhawks on to an 8-0 victory in their home opener on Thursday night as four student-athletes notched the first goals of their collegiate careers.
Freshman
Dani Galiana Torres capped off the night with a pair of goals to lead the Duhawks (3-0) in the match while fellow freshmen
Cole Bridson,
Taylor Sowell, and sophomore
Michael Koutsopanagos each found the net for their first times in a Loras uniform.
Loras overpowered the Buccaneers (0-3) throughout most of the game and registered a 36-3 shot advantage. The Duhawks started the scoring in the third minute with a goal from senior
Kyler Donovan, his first of the year, and they never looked back.
Junior
Reed Miklavcic netted his second goal of the season and produced what might be the goal of the year for the Duhawks as his bicycle kick found the net in the 17
th minute.
Technical passing from seniors
Lucas Sampson and
Alex Beausoleil set up Bridson with his first goal as a Duhawk, before senior
Jared Block cashed in for a goal just a few minutes later, sending the Duhawks on to a 4-0 halftime lead.
Sowell's first career goal in the 57
th minute came unassisted as he dribbled past the defense and somehow snuck a shot between the Beloit goalkeeper and the near post. Koutsopanagos notched his goal less than 10 minutes of game time later to set up for the finale from Galiana Torres.
Galiana Torres' goals both came in the final 10 minutes to seal the deal on the Duhawks' third straight win and the third straight shutout from senior goalkeeper
Owen Johnson.
Loras gets tested this weekend with a difficult road match at (RV) Gustavus Adolphus College on Sunday, Sept. 11. Kickoff in St. Peter, Minn. is scheduled for 3 P.M.
