DUBUQUE, Iowa (Jan. 22, 2023) – Loras College's women's track and field team didn't leave much of a doubt about who the best team was on Saturday as the Duhawks cruised to a first-place finish at the University of Dubuque's Kenneth "Moco" Mercer Open.
The Duhawks racked up 231.5 points throughout the day to pace the five-team field, finishing well ahead of the hosting Spartans in second place with 101.5 points.
Sprinter
Marion Edwards led the way as the senior won a pair of events in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. Edwards' 7.76 time in the finals of the 60 meters was tops in a 1-2-3-4 finish for Loras while her 25.55 in the 200 meters led off for a 1-2-3-4-5 for the Duhawks.
A pair of mid-distance runners helped the Loras cause as well as graduate student
Kaylee Osterberger laid down a 2:17.65 in the 800 meters to elevate her to sixth on the program's all-time list. Osterberger's mark places her sixth nationally in the event as of Sunday.
Senior
Brianna Renner also ran her way to the top of the podium as she clocked a 5:21.71 to run away with an 11-second victory in the mile.
A trio of Duhawks led the way in the field as senior
Grace Alley went tops in the high jump at 1.63 meters, sophomore
Harmony Creasy took first in the long jump with at 5.41 meters, and
De'ja Austin-Cherry won the triple jump at 11.20 meters.
With her second-place mark in the weight throw, freshman
Caitlyn Cox rose to third on the program's all-time list with a 17.24-meter toss. That mark is top 10 nationally and the top mark by a freshman.
Loras will look to continue with its hot start next weekend as the team splits between the Aurora University Grand Prix and the University of Dubuque Sol Butler Classic on Saturday, Jan. 28.
