DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's tennis team fell, 0-9, to American Rivers Conference regular season champion, Luther College, this evening at the Tucker Tennis Courts.
Mary Breitbach and
Dorothy Deans contended at No.1 doubles, but ultimately fell 5-8 to Sofia Sackett and Natalia Smith. Abby Struble and Julianna Mascardo swept
Caroline Hutchinson and
Leia Papanicholas in the No. 2 spot, while
Ellie Kalina and
Clair Moore came up short at No.3 doubles, falling 2-8 to Riley O'Donnell and Abby Ostermann.
In singles play, Sackett outlasted Breitbach at No.1 singles, taking the match by scores of 6-2, 4-6 and 11-9 in the tiebreaker. Deans dropped her match to Ostermann 3-6, 1-6 at No.2 singles, while O'Donnell defeated Hutchinson 6-0, 7-6 and 7-1 in the tiebreaker in the No. 3 spot. Moore and Papanicholas met similar fates at No. 4 and 5 singles respectively, falling 4-6, 1-6 to Rafaela Queiroga Tavares and 3-6, 4-6 to Struble. Lena Lichau completed the sweep for the Norse with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kalina at No. 6 singles.
Loras closed out its regular season with a 9-3 overall record and a 6-2 mark in the A-R-C.
