Box Score CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Loras College women's tennis team competed in the American Rivers Conference Individual Tournament, this past Friday and Saturday.
In the A-Singles bracket,
Leia Papanicholas took down Reese Williams of Wartburg 4-1, 5-3, before falling in her second matchup to Coe's Maddie Schultz 0-4, 1-4.
Dorothy Deans came up short in her opening match against Central's Jenna Hernandez, falling 4-0, 0-4 and 7-10 in the tiebreaker, while
Caroline Hutchinson met a similar fate, dropping her match to Claudia Bilkey of Coe 2-4, 0-4. Central's Brianna Lindstrom handed
Clair Moore a loss as well, taking the match 4-1, 0-4 and 11-9 in the tiebreaker, while Natalie Kaiser of Wartburg defeated
Mary Breitbach 5-3, 4-0 in the second round.
Ellie Kalina was swept by Jania Carter-Johnson of Coe in the B-Singles bracket, while Lauren Gano of Central handled
Alexis Tatum 4-1, 4-0 in the C-Singles bracket.
In the A-Doubles bracket, Hutchinson and Papanicholas fell to Coe's Courtney Carstensen and Alliandra Hagness 3-6. Breitbach and Deans toppled Williams and Chihiro Ono of Wartburg 6-2 in their opening match but fell in the quarterfinals to Luther's Abby Ostermann and Riley O'Donnell 3-6.
Moore and Kalina made quite a run in the B-Doubles bracket. They started things off with a decisive 6-1 win over Simpson's Coilee Hynek and Maddie Haskell and kept the momentum going with a 6-2 win over Bilkey and Jaden Fuqua of Coe. The pair fell for the first time in the semifinals at the hands of Lena Lichau and Natalie Neff of Luther 4-6 and came up short in the final match of the day against Wartburg's Bailey Sinnwell and Tori Johnson 4-6 to earn a 3
rd place finish.
