WAVERLY, Iowa - The Loras College women's volleyball team was victorious Wednesday night as they defeated the Wartburg College Knights 3-1 inside Levick Arena.
The first set was very competitive as neither team was able to take full control of the set. For every point the Knights scored, the Duhawks had an answer. The Duhawks rattled off four straight points to take a 14-11 lead midway through the set, but the Knights responded taking a late 23-20 lead. The Purple and Gold however, persevered and finished the set on a 5-0 run to come back and win the set 25-23.
After some back and forth play to begin the second set, the Duhawks found themselves behind 13-11. After a quick 5-2 run, Loras (10-12 overall, 1-3 A-R-C) trailed by a single point, before they were finally able to tie things up at 21 apiece. Unlike set one, the Duhawk comeback attempt came up short as the Knights took set two 25-22.
Unlike the first two sets, Wartburg (9-15, 2-2) was able to grab a 10-5 lead early in the set. The Duhawks however, refused to quit, scoring six straight points to take a 15-14 lead in the set. The Duhawks took advantage of the momentum to win set three 25-22.
In set four, the Duhawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead. This time it was Wartburg's turn to go on a run as they were able to rattle off six straight points to take an 8-5 lead in the set. In a set that was filled with runs, Loras went on one of their own as they grabbed five straight points to tie the match at 13 apiece. The Knights tied the set at 20, before the Duhawks were ultimately able to grab set four and win the set 25-23.
Autumn Finch paced Loras with 15 kills, while
Cat Meyer added 13 kills and
Elaina Schroeder added 10 kills and a block.
Sara Hoskins dished out 47 assists on the night as well as 17 digs. Wartburg was led by Emerson Kracht and Whitney Klyn who each had 15 kills for the Knights, while Brooklyn Buysse had 23 assists on the night.
