DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's volleyball team soared to a 3-1 victory over Luther College on Tuesday evening inside the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center.
The Duhawks took control of the first set, breaking the 9-9 tie with a 6-0 run to take a 15-9 lead. The Purple and Gold outlasted a few runs by the Norse, which allowed them to get within two points late in the set, to take the set by a score of 25-21.
Luther (7-18 overall, 1-6 A-R-C) led the entire second set and evened the match to one set apiece with a 25-18 victory.
Loras (11-13, 2-3) handled the Norse 25-20 and 25-18 in sets three and four respectively to score its second A-R-C win of the season.
Leading the way for the Duhawks was
Autumn Finch who put down 13 kills and contributed six blocks.
Sophie Younkin and
Elaina Schroeder added nine kills apiece, while
Sara Hoskins dished out 39 assists and totaled five serve aces for Loras in the win. Hoskins also surpassed 3,000 career assists with her efforts tonight. As a team the Duhawks hit .227, which featured 48 kills and 19 errors in 128 attempts.
Sarina Stortz paced the Norse offense with 17 kills. Zoe Verhey chipped in 11 kills, while Kyah Olson-Sola tallied 19 digs for Luther. Emma Kowalczyk also recorded 35 assists in the loss. As a team, the Norse hit .176, finishing with 45 kills and 23 errors in 125 attempts.
