DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's volleyball team evened its conference record with a 3-1 win over Buena Vista University on Friday evening inside the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center.
The Beavers came out strong in set one, capitalizing on some uncharacteristic Duhawk errors. However, the Purple and Gold fought back from being down 5-9 early in the set to tie things up at 10 apiece. From that point on, Buena Vista (6-16 overall, 0-6 A-R-C) went on to outscore the Duhawks 15-4 to take the opening set by a score of 25-14.
Loras (12-13, 3-3) opened up set two with a pair of service aces by
Jenna Bistline to take a 2-0 lead. The Duhawks held onto the lead for the remainder of the set and cruised to a 25-12 victory to tie the match up at one set apiece.
The Duhawks defeated the Beavers 25-20 in set three and four en route to their second straight conference victory.
As a team, Loras hit .311, finishing with 52 kills and 14 errors in 122 attempts.
Sophie Younkin and
Cat Meyer led the Duhawk offense with 11 kills apiece.
Autumn Finch added in 10 kills and four blocks, while
Sara Hoskins put down eight kills in addition to dishing out 35 assists. Hoskins also led the time in digs with 15.
Molly McCauley led the way for the Beavers offensively with 13 kills. Hope Vanderlinden followed closely behind with 11 kills, while Rachel Brockney added in eight kills in the loss. Grace Coble handed out 20 assists, while Molly Bense recorded a team-high 18 digs. As a team, Buena Vista hit .256, which featured 44 kills and 14 errors in 117 attempts.
