DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's tennis team earned a pair of conference wins over Nebraska Wesleyan University, 6-3, and Buena Vista University, 9-0, on Saturday at the Tucker Tennis Courts.
Loras 6, NWU 3
In doubles play,
Mary Breitbach and
Dorothy Deans fell 2-8 to Parker Brown and Addi Duranski at No. 1 doubles, while
Caroline Hutchinson and
Leia Papanicholas outlasted Ella Ford and Greta Wostoupal, 8-6, in the No. 2 spot.
Jessie Yelaska and
Ellie Kalina secured an 8-4 win over Gracey Smith and Abby Cole at No. 3 doubles to give the Duhawks a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
Breitbach defeated Brown 6-3, 6-2 at No.1 singles, while Deans dropped her match to Ford at No.2 singles by scores of 4-6, 6-4 and 9-11 in the tiebreaker. Hutchinson took care of business against Wostoupal in the No. 3 spot, taking the match with scores of 6-0, 6-2. Papanicholas came up short at No. 4 singles, falling 6-4, 5-7 and 10-2 in the tiebreaker to Duranski, while Kalina took down Smith 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 5 spot. Yelaska persevered to score the final Duhawk point of the match by defeating Ava Johnson 3-6, 6-0, and 12-10 in the tiebreaker.

The Duhawks swept the Beavers in both doubles and singles play to earn their sixth conference victory of the season.
Breitbach and Deans soundly defeated Macy Weller and Hailey Meseck, 8-1, at No.1 doubles, while both Hutchinson and Papanicholas at No.2 doubles and Kalina and Yelaska at No. 3 doubles swept their opponents allowing the Duhawks to hold a 3-0 advantage heading into singles play.
Breitbach kept the momentum going at No.1 singles, defeating Weller 6-0, 6-0 with Deans following suit in the No. 2 spot with a victory over Meseck by scores of 6-0 and 6-2. Hutchinson and Papanicholas dominated at No. 3 and 4 singles respectively, holding both Nancy Flores and Lily Gust scoreless. Kalina took down Jenny Almanza 6-1, 6-0, while
Alexis Tatum completed the Loras sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Taylor Fritz.
