Story Links

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Four starters scored in double figures for the Loras College men's basketball team, as the Duhawks earned a 100-89 win over Wartburg College on Wednesday night at the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center.

A 12-0 run midway through the first half helped Loras (4-2 overall, 1-1 American Rivers Conference) erase Wartburg's seven point lead and put the Duhawks in front with 8:44 to play. After a minor run by the Knights (1-6, 1-1), a three pointer by Ali Sabet at 6:18 put Loras in control the rest of the way.

Jackson Molstead scored a game-high 19 points against his former team, as the Wartburg transfer sank four of his nine three-point attempts (44.4%). Jack Haynes added 16, while Sabet and Jared Pearson scored 12 points each. Declan Ciurlik rounded out starters in double digits with 11.

The Duhawks outscored the Knights 35-33 off the bench, including a season-high 18 points from Tyler Bass. The Washington, Ill. native went 5-for-6 from the field, including a mark of 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. Bass also knocked down all six of his free throw attempts, going perfect from the line for the third time in a game this season.

Myles Barry led the team in rebounds, as the senior hauled in a season-high seven. Haynes and Sabet finished close behind with six each.

The Duhawks held an advantage in fast break points at a mark of 14-4, while also controlling the game on second-chance efforts with a margin of 18-6.

Up next, Loras travels to face Martin Luther College on Saturday. Tip at the LCS Gymnasium is set for 2 p.m. in New Ulm, Minn.
