Duhawks Start Fast in 90-72 Victory Over Lakeland University

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The Loras men's basketball team got out to a fast start and never looked back as the Duhawks earned itself a win over Lakeland University, 90-72, on Monday night inside the Woltzen Gymnasium.

Senior guard Ali Sabet led the way offensively for Loras (8-1 overall, 2-1 American Rivers Conference), scoring a game-high 24 points, shooting 9-for-16 from the floor, including 4-for-8 from deep. The Glenview, Ill. native added four assists and three rebounds in 27 minutes of action.

Jackson Molstead scored 17 points going 6-for-9 from the field, while also shooting 50 percent (3-6) from behind the arc.

Tyler Bass recorded his third-straight double-double, adding in 10 points and 11 rebounds while going 70 percent (7-10) from the free throw line.

Sophomore forward Jack Haynes rounded out double-digit scorers finishing with 15 points, two rebounds, one block, one steal, and one assist.

Loras opened the game with a quick 12-0 run led by a quick five points from senior Myles Barry. The Muskies rallied to get within three (19-16) with 9:03 to play in the first half, but the Duhawks closed out the frame on a 31-13 run to lead 50-29 at the break. Sabet scored 10, while Molstead scored nine in the second half to pace Loras to the victory.

The Duhawks shot 33-for-63 (52.4 percent) from the floor, including knocking down nine three pointers – making it every game the Purple and Gold have done so thus far this season. Loras also controlled the rebound game, grabbing 41 to Lakeland's 32.

The victory extends Loras' current win streak to six and gives the program its best start to a season in five years as the 2018-19 Duhawks went 9-1 to open the season.

Up next, the Duhawks head to Carlinville, Ill. to take on Blackburn College. Tip is set for 1 p.m. inside the Woodward Athletic Center.
