CARLINVILLE, Illinois –
Jackson Molstead had a season-high 21 points, while
Jack Haynes had a near double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds as the Loras College men's basketball team downed Blackburn College, 77-63, on Wednesday afternoon inside the Woodward Athletic Center.
Molstead shot an efficient 66.7 percent (8-for-12) from the floor, including 5-for-7 from three point range. The Charles City, Iowa native hauled in four rebounds and picked up two assists in 27 minutes of action. Haynes was 5-for-8 (62.5 percent) from the field, while converting on five of his eight free throw attempts.
Ali Sabet shot 50 percent (6-for-12) en route to 15 points. The 6-2 senior guard grabbed six rebounds and two steals.
Declan Ciurlik notched 10 points to round out Loras' double-digit scorers. The senior out of Meaquon, Wis. was 2-for-3 (66.7 percent) from three-point territory, finishing the game 4-of-6 (66.7 percent) from the field.
The Duhawks (9-1 overall, 2-1 A-R-C) were 29-of-54 (53.7 percent) from the field, which included going 10-for-21 (47.6 percent) from three point land. The team had an off night from the free throw line, shooting an uncharacteristic season-low 52.9 percent (9-of-17). Loras controlled the boards with a 36-23 advantage.
The Purple and Gold will get the holidays off before returning to action back home on Dec. 29 and 30 for the Loras Holiday Classic. The Duhawks will face Lake Forest College on Friday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. before turning around to play host to Wisconsin Lutheran College on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 6 p.m.
