Feb. 12, 2023 – Event wins and school records were the goal for the third-ranked Loras College women's track and field team this weekend as Duhawks competed at each the Midwest Elite Meet at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Invitational.
Midwest Elite Meet – UW-Whitewater
Ten Duhawk individuals and relay groups secured notable marks on Saturday as the Duhawks placed third out of eight teams despite not being at full strength. Leading the headlines is a 3:50.76 race-winning time from the 4x400-meter relay team that also gives the Duhawks the best time in Division III this season.
Marion Edwards,
Elly Burds,
Harmony Creasy, and
Alyssa Pfadenhauer are now the top seed on the National Championship qualifying list as their time converts to a 3:47.74, making it the top mark by just three-hundredths of a second. The unconverted time ranks third in program history.
While that relay team fell short of the school record, freshman thrower
Caitlyn Cox did not as she ascended to the top of the program's weight throw chart with a mark of 17.89 meters. That mark is also the sixth-best in Division III this season.
Cox and junior
Taylor Flaig finished second and third in the event behind Brenna Masloroff from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh as Flaig set a new personal best with a mark 16.52 meters.
Cox and Flaig going second and third in the weight throw wasn't the only time that happened for the Duhawks as
Grace Alley and Creasy did so in the triple jump. Alley's 11.47-meter mark placed the senior second while Creasy set a new personal best with a 11.38-meter mark in the third place.
Those two also had success elsewhere as Creasy was third in the long jump at 5.57 meters and Alley was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.43.
Edwards enjoyed her typical success as well as she went second-fastest in the 60-meter dash (7.69) and third-fastest in the 200-meter dash (25.19). Her 200-meter time converts to a 24.81 to rank her eighth in Division III this season.
Junior
Sara Hoskins placed fifth in the high jump with a 1.61-meter mark while Burds clocked a personal-best 2:15.85 in the 800-meters to round out the noteworthy Duhawk performances.
UW-Platteville Invitational
A smaller number of Duhawks competed at UW-Platteville on Saturday, but there was still some success to be had. Junior
Brooke Kruse earned herself a pair of top-five finishes in each the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes to lead the way.
Kruse clocked a 27.68 in her section of the 200-meter dash to place fourth while registering an 8.19 in the finals of 60-meter dash to place fifth.
Freshman
Julia Klein equaled her career-best mark in the high jump with a 1.50-meter mark, which placed her in a tie for third in the event in terms of highest clearance. She officially earned a fourth-place finish.
Finally, sophomore
Ali Flatter finished in the top half of the 400-meter dash race as she ran a 1:05.81 and finished just behind a pair of Division II runners from Upper Iowa University.
Loras splits up again next Saturday, Feb. 17 as some athletes head to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and others will stay closer to home and compete at the University of Dubuque.
