WAVERLY, Iowa (Feb. 5, 2023) – No. 5 Loras College women's track and field tallied seven event victories at Saturday's Wartburg College Select Invite, sending the Duhawks to a runner-up finish out of eight competing teams.
The Duhawks placed second to the meet host No. 16 Wartburg after tallying 163 points to Wartburg's 223.
Sophomore
Harmony Creasy was one of the frontrunners for the Duhawks on Saturday as she came home first in the 200-meter dash. She clocked an indoor personal-best of 25.81 to take top honors in that race after already having a career day in the 60-meter dash.
Creasy ran a 7.84 in the prelims of the 60-meter dash to set a new personal-best, then did so again in the finals with a 7.79 to finish third overall. She was also second overall in the long jump with a best mark of 5.37 meters.
The Duhawk running success didn't stop there as seniors
Alyssa Pfadenhauer and
Marion Edwards finished 1-2 in the 400-meter dash with 57.16 and 57.62 times, respectively.
Loras tallied a 1-2-3 finish in the 800-meters with freshman
Elly Burds, graduate student
Kaylee Osterberger, and senior
Ellie Osterberger. Burds' race-winning time of 2:17.63 led the way as the trio all finished within 1.1 seconds of one another.
Pfadenhauer and Burds were also part of the 4x400-meter relay team that came home first as that duo, along with sophomore
Aaliyah Collier and senior
Merryl Green, paced the field with a 3:56.45.
In the field, freshman
Caitlyn Cox finished first in the weight throw with a 17.01-meter toss while junior
De'ja Austin-Cherry took the top spot in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 11.64 meters, boosting her to third on the program's all-time list.
Senior
Grace Alley also claimed an event victory with a 1.69-meter clearance in the high jump – just 0.01 meters off from her program-record mark – while adding a fifth-place finish in the shot put.
The Duhawks split up next Saturday, Feb. 11 between a pair of meets at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
