HILTON HEAD, S.C. (March 13, 2023) – The Loras College men's tennis team hit the courts for the first time in nearly a month on Monday morning and earned a 7-2 win over Maryville College to start play in the Spring Tennis Fest.
The Duhawks (4-4) are back to .500 for the year after taking down the Scots (3-4) in South Carolina on Monday. Loras took two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches to waltz on to a win.
Each match was held to two sets or fewer on Monday morning as it began with a pair of 8-5 wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles for the Duhawks. The Duhawk duo of seniors
Kevin Blomquist and
Konnor Barth was victorious at No. 1 doubles while sophomore
Kareem Kassas and
Lucas Healy took the win at No. 2 doubles.
Blomquist, Barth, and Kassas were each victorious in straight sets in their respective singles matches as well, joining freshman
Gage Becker in the win column as he took the No. 2 singles match 6-3, 6-4 over Maryville's Sam Cocchia.
The final Duhawk win came at No. 6 singles from sophomore
Henry Condo as he claimed a close 8-7 win in a single-set match in his first singles action as a Duhawk.
Loras competes twice tomorrow, Tuesday March 14, starting with a 9 A.M. ET match with Oswego State before facing Western New England University at 3 P.M. ET.
