March 30, 2023 – Loras College's men's tennis team took to the Tucker Tennis Courts for the first time in 2023 on Thursday evening as the Duhawks fell 6-3 in a well-contested American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) match with Wartburg College.
The Duhawks (7-5, 0-2 A-R-C) managed one win in doubles play against the Knights (6-15, 1-0 A-R-C) to stay in contention, but then got only two wins in singles play to settle for a 6-3 defeat.
The No. 2 doubles duo of senior
Konnor Barth and freshman
Gage Becker claimed victory for Loras as they narrowly outlasted Jeff Miller and Joseph Haag in an 8-7 thriller. It serves as the duo's second straight win together as doubles partners.
Barth accounted for another win at No. 4 singles as his long, back-and-forth match with Kyle Sehlin was the highlight of singles action. Barth took the first set 7-6 before falling 6-3 and heading to the tiebreaker round, where he outlasted his Wartburg opponent 10-5 for his seventh straight win in singles play.
Sophomore
Kareem Kassas accounted for the third Duhawk win of the night as he took down Miller at No. 5 singles. Kassas won 7-5 in a close first set, then cruised 6-0 in set two to give him a 10-1 singles record this season, but a 1-0 mark at No. 5 singles for 2022-23.
The Duhawks are at home again on Wednesday, April 12 for another A-R-C match, this time against the University of Dubuque at 4 P.M.
