STORM LAKE, Iowa (April 22, 2023) – Loras College's men's tennis team got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon as the Duhawks took down Buena Vista University 8-1 for the seventh straight time in the series.
The Duhawks (11-7, 3-4 A-R-C) struggled in a match on Friday at Luther College but got back pointed in the right direction on Saturday with a convincing win over the Beavers (0-10, 0-7 A-R-C).
Only one match went the way of the Beavers as Dalton Pregon and Ryan Webb narrowly outlasted the Duhawk pairing of senior
Konnor Barth and freshman
Gage Becker at No. 2 doubles. The Beavers prevailed 8-7 in the match, which ultimately avoided an outright sweep.
Each Becker (No. 2) and Barth (No. 3) got their revenge with wins in singles play in straight sets, including a 6-2, 6-1 win for Becker over Brendan Schlader. Senior
Kevin Blomquist at No. 1 singles also earned a win in straight sets with a 6-1, 6-3 victory, while sophomore
Henry Condo claimed a 6-1, 6-1 victory at fives.
Freshman
Lucas Healy got the nod at No. 4 singles for the first time in his career, and despite dropping the opening set, he rallied back to claim his match 6-7, 7-5, 10-4. Junior
Gannon Harrington was declared a winner by forfeit at No. 6 singles for the eighth match win for Loras.
The Duhawks will conclude the regular season tomorrow, Sunday April 23, with a match at Nebraska Wesleyan University at 10 A.M.
