DES MOINES, Iowa (April 30, 2023) – Fourth-ranked Loras College men's track & field put the established Duhawk brand on display yet again this weekend with more stellar relay performances at the Drake Relays.
After the
men's 4x800-meter relay team set a Division III all-time record on Thursday with a 7:22.17, the Duhawks were at it again on Saturday, setting the all-time Division III record and taking the relay title in the distance medley relay.
Seniors
Wyatt Kelly,
Carter Oberfoell, and junior
Ryan Harvey were each a part of the 4x800-meter and the distance medley relay teams this past week, as they added freshman
Matthew Marcum to the mix for Saturday's DMR. Loras' 9:45.73 took eight seconds off the previous NCAA Division III record, which was set by North Central College back in 2000.
The impressive relay showings didn't end there as the 4x200-meter relay team of senior
Josh Smith, junior
Dayvion Foreman, senior
De'Andre Klein, and junior
Derik Bunten ran a 1:28.20 to rank third in program history, while the sprint medley relay team of juniors
Ted Kruse,
Carson Vaske, freshman
Easton Stackis, and Oberfoell ran a 3:26.76 to rank fourth in program history. Both teams finished inside the top-10 in their respective race divisions.
As individuals, senior
Mike Jasa, who was a member of Friday's 4x800-meter relay team, finished as the runner-up in the 800-meter race of the university/college division while senior
Ray Venditti placed fourth in the pole vault with a best clearance of 4.71 meters.
Loras' next action will be on its home track as the Duhawks host the Dr. Tucker Open on Friday, May 5, at the Finnegan Family Track at the Rock Bowl.
