No. 2 Women’s Track & Field Claims A-R-C Outdoor Championship

May 14, 2023

DECORAH, Iowa (May 14, 2023) – The second-ranked Loras College women's track & field team is back on top of the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) with an outdoor championship over the weekend after falling short of that particular goal in 2022.

The Duhawks earned 243 points over the course of the three-day championship event in Decorah, Iowa to surpass 12th-ranked Wartburg College by 25 points and finish off a sweep of the indoor and outdoor championships this season.

Senior Gabrielle Noland took home the Most Valuable Track Performer honor for Loras while head coach Matt Jones and his assistant coaches were named as the women's Staff of the Year. In total, the Duhawks claimed nine event championships over the weekend.

Loras' run to the title began with three event champions being crowned on Friday as the 4x800-meter relay team won the first of three relay championships for the Duhawks. Sophomore Frankie Chaidez, freshmen Emily Jackson, Elly Burds, and senior Alyssa Pfadenhauer clocked a 9:24.30 to win the race and set the third-best time in program history.

Friday's success also included a long jump championship for sophomore Harmony Creasy with a 5.68-meter jump and another 10,000-meter championship for graduate student Kassie Parker. Parker's 37:30.57 time was enough to make her a three-time conference champion in the 10k.

The Duhawks trailed in the standings entering Saturday, but six more event wins vaulted them over Wartburg as Noland led the way with three championship efforts. Noland was the winner of each the 100-meter (12.02) and 200-meter (24.13) dashes as an individual with her 200-meter time rising to No. 3 in Division III this season.

Additionally, Noland was the second leg of the 4x400-meter team that ran a 3:40.61 on Saturday to put a final stamp on the team's championship effort. Along with Noland, seniors Marion Edwards, Stevie Lambe, and Pfadenhauer ran their fastest time of the year to rank first in the country.

Pfadenahuer earned a championship all her own on Saturday as well with a 55.46 time in the 400-meters while Parker claimed a second crown, this time in the 1500-meters with a new career-best 4:26.59 to claim her first conference title in that race length.

Loras completed the relay sweep with the 4x100-meter championship as Creasy, Edwards, Lambe, and junior Kelly Kohlhof ran a championship-record and program runner-up time of 46.11.

With another trophy in hand, the Duhawks have just a few days until the NCAA Division III National Championship qualifying deadline. Loras has three last chance meets scheduled for Thursday, May 18 as it makes a final push to earn as many qualifications as possible.
