ROCHESTER, N.Y. (May 27, 2023) – One of the top brands in Division III was on display yet again this weekend in Rochester, N.Y. as the second-ranked Loras College women's track & field team capped off another stellar season with a runner-up finish in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
With a second-place finish, Loras' bid for a fourth-straight outdoor championship came to close as the top-ranked University of Wisconsin-La Crosse claimed this year's team title with 67.5 points ahead of 58 points for the Duhawks.
This year's Duhawk team claimed five national championships at the St. John Fisher University's Polisenni Track & Field Complex, including three on Saturday, and earned All-America status in a total of seven events across the weekend.
Saturday's track action for the women got started with a sizzling 45.60 time for the 4x100-meter relay squad that was enough for them to claim the championship in that event for the fourth straight season. That time from sophomore
Harmony Creasy and seniors
Marion Edwards,
Stevie Lambe, and
Gabrielle Noland also eclipsed the previous Division III record set by Methodist University in 2012.
That was just one of two relay titles for Loras on the day as the 4x400-meter relay team came home first in the final event of the weekend. Edwards, Noland, Lambe, and senior
Alyssa Pfadenhauer punctuated the championships and locked up the team's runner-up finish with a time of 3:39.76, setting a new school record and marking a second straight 4x400-meter title for the purple and gold.
Just two races prior to the 4x400-meters, graduate student
Kassie Parker put the finishing touches on her historic career as she claimed the 5,000-meter championship with a 16:18.30. Just as she did on Thursday to win the 10,000-meter title, Parker held off Fiona Smith from the College of St. Benedict to win another thrilling distance event. Parker ends her career with a total of three outdoor track & field national titles to go along with two indoor track national titles and two cross country national titles.
Pfadenhauer collected even more accolades as an individual on Saturday as she came home with a third-place finish in the 400-meters. Pfadenhauer's finals time of 54.80 was enough to give her her third straight All-America accolade in the outdoor 400-meters.
Loras also saw three athletes compete in the field on Saturday to wrap up the championships. Senior
Grace Alley and Creasy both took part in the triple jump and placed 13
th and 19
th, respectively. Freshman
Caitlyn Cox also bookended an incredible first season as a Duhawk with an appearance in the hammer throw, where she placed 21
st after her first toss of 46.88 meters was her best of the preliminary round.
