Duhawks Dominate Scots, 6-0, in Season Opener

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College men's soccer team started off its 2023 season and rang in the Sam Koenig era in stellar fashion, shutting out the Scots of Monmouth College 6-0 on Friday evening behind goals from four different Duhawks.

Liam Bennett got the party started early, scoring the first goal of the season merely a minute and a half into the contest off an assist from Owen Ivanuck. Just over six minutes later at the 7:58 mark, Alex Beausoleil scored his first goal of the '23 campaign off an assist from Reed Miklavcic.

Scoring in the first half halted from there, but the Loras defense kept the pressure on the Scots by limiting the team to zero shots through the first 45 minutes of the contest.

Bennett and Ivanuck connected yet again in the 56th minute after Bennett found the back of the net to put the Duhawks up 3-0. Michael Koutsopanagos followed things up at the 61:10 mark, scoring off of Miklavcic's second assist of the evening.

Sophomore Dani Galiana Torres scored the third and fourth goals of his collegiate career, tallying the final two scores of the evening at 78:47 and 85:20.

The Duhawks controlled the game on all phases, holding the advantage in corner kicks (12-0) and preventing the Scots from recording a single shot on goal.

Up Next: The Duhawks return to the pitch at the Rock Bowl on Sunday to face the Cobbers of Concordia College (Minn.) at 10 a.m. Sunday's game has been moved up due to projected temperatures in the forecast.
