DAVENPORT, Iowa – The Loras College women's tennis team took down Saint Ambrose University, 6-1, in a non-conference showdown on Saturday morning.
The Duhawks (4-1 overall) swept the Bees (0-3 overall) in doubles play, with
Mary Breitbach and
Dorothy Deans securing the win at No. 1 doubles over Julia Turek and Jenna Smithmeyer by a score of 7-5.
Leia Papanicholas and
Caroline Hutchinson soundly defeated Alison Hanson and Paige Owens, 6-0, at No.2 doubles, while
Jessie Yelaska and
Ellie Kalina completed the sweep at No. 3 doubles over Kate Jones and Sarah Baxter with a score of 6-2.
Leading the way in singles play was Breitbach who defeated Turek 6-1 and 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Deans handled Smithmeyer 6-3 and 6-0 at No. 2 singles, while Hutchinson followed suit with a dominant 6-0 and 6-1 win over Jones at No. 3 singles. Papanicholas was victorious at No. 4 singles, posting scores of 6-1 and 6-0 over Hanson. Yelaska tallied the final points for the Duhawks at No. 6 singles with the defeat of Audrey Pender by scores of 4-6, 6-0 and 10-6 in the tiebreaker.
