DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's tennis team defeated the University of Dubuque, 9-0, in a crosstown clash at the Tucker Tennis Courts this afternoon.
In doubles play,
Mary Breitbach and
Dorothy Deans took down Hayden Warner and Breann Kieliszewski 8-7, winning the tiebreaker by a score of 7-1 in the No. 1 spot.
Caroline Hutchinson and
Leia Papanicholas secured an 8-2 win over Adriana Benavente and Amelia Court at No. 2 doubles, while
Jessie Yelaska and
Alexis Tatum tallied the final doubles win for the Duhawks with an 8-1 victory over Abby Drost and Qi Zhang.
Breitbach handled Benavente 6-3 and 6-2 at No.1 singles, while Deans outlasted Warner at No. 2 singles by scores of 7-6, 2-6 and 10-5 in the tiebreaker. Both Hutchinson and Moore defeated their opponents, Kieliszewski and Drost respectively, 6-1 and 6-1 at No. 3 and 4 singles, while Papanicholas and Kalina followed suit at No. 5 and 6 singles securing wins over Court and Zhang by scores of 6-0 and 6-0.
Loras improves to 5-1 so far this season and holds a 2-0 mark in A-R-C play.
Up Next: The Duhawks travel to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for the ITA Regional Championship. Competition begins on Friday, Sept. 22.
