DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's volleyball team closed out the Loras Invitational with a 1-1 mark, sweeping the College of St. Scholastica in the morning, before falling to No. 15 Gustavus Adolphus, 3-1 in the afternoon.

The Duhawks handled St. Scholastica from the get-go, only trailing by one in the early points of the set. Loras used a 7-0 run in the middle of the set to increase its four-point lead to an 11-point lead to cruise to a 25-11 victory in set one.
The second set featured an equal number of runs from both teams, but the Duhawks sealed the set two win with seven consecutive points at the end of the set to come away with a 25-20 win.
The final set of the match was no different for Loras (6-5 overall) who took an early 6-5 lead and never relinquished it to complete the sweep by a score of 25-19.
St. Scholastica (2-8 overall) was led by Ava Swangstue who tallied a team-high seven kills. Grace Myhre recorded 15 assists to go along with eight digs, while Natalie Yackley chipped in four kills and eight digs in the loss. As a team, the Saints hit 0.63, finishing with 22 kills and 16 errors in 96 attempts.
Leading the way for Loras were
Autumn Finch and
Patrycja Jarzabek who finished with nine kills apiece.
Cat Meyer put down eight kills and 10 digs, while
Sara Hoskins dished out 33 assists in the win. As a team, the Duhawks hit .298, finishing with 46 kills and 12 errors in 114 attempts.
Gustavus Adolphus 3, Loras 1
In the opening set, the Duhawks fought back from a 12-4 deficit to post two four-point runs and a five-point run to take a narrow 22-21 lead late in the set. Loras took set one 25-23.
In the second set, Loras (6-6 overall) was unable to overcome the 7-0 run that Gustavus Adolphus used late in the set to secure a 22-17 lead.
The Gusties defeated the Duhawks in the following three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-17.
Loras was led by Finch who finished with 12 kills, while
Sophie Younkin followed closely behind with 11 kills of her own.
Jenna Bistline tallied 19 digs and Hoskins added in 38 assists in the loss.
Marlee Turn put down 19 kills for the Gusties to go along with eight digs. Lauren Klaith added in 13 kills, while Kasie Tweet dished out 36 assists and 12 digs in the win.
Up next: The Duhawks continue their homestand by welcoming the No. 17 Cornell College Rams to the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. for a midweek matchup.
