Duhawks Mount Second Half Comeback in Draw with UW-Whitewater

DUBUQUE, Iowa – After trailing 3-1 at the half, the Loras College Duhawks mounted an impressive second-half comeback to come to a 3-3 draw with the Warhawks of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Wednesday night in the Rock Bowl.

Loras (4-1-3 overall) fell behind early to UWW (8-0-2) after Cooper Re scored on Whitewater's first shot attempt in the game's third minute. Reed Miklavcic scored his fourth goal of the season in the 16th minute to tie things up, but Whitewater regained its lead less than 15 minutes later after Peyton Nichols found Tucker Jahns for a goal.

The Warhawks supplemented their lead in the 38th minute when Nichols scored for himself, tipping the momentum scale heavily in favor of the Warhawks. Heading into the half, Loras held a slight advantage in shots (9-8) while Whitewater led in corner kicks (4-3).

The second half started off slow for the Duhawks, as Loras struggled to fire off a shot until the 64th minute when Nathan Haberli connected for the first goal of his career to trim the lead to 3-2.

The two teams would exchange shots back-and-forth over the following 13 minutes until Alex Beausoleil scored the equalizer off assists from Reed Miklavcic and Ethan Kelly in the 80th minute. Despite the momentum swinging right back in favor of Loras, Whitewater was able to protect its side of the field without the Duhawks doing any more damage to end things in a tie after 90 minutes of play.

Game Notes
  • Loras trailed in shots (17-16), but led the game in shots on goal (8-7)
  • UWW held a large advantage in corner kicks (9-3)

Up Next: The Duhawks will return to the confinements of the Rock Bowl on Saturday to face the Beavers of Buena Vista University on Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
