Men's Soccer Dominates Buena Vista, 6-0, on Senior Day

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College Duhawks men's soccer program picked up a dominant victory on Saturday afternoon inside the Rock Bowl, as Loras defeated the Buena Vista University Beavers 6-0 on Senior Day.

The Duhawks (5-1-3 overall, 1-0 A-R-C) honored five student-athletes during halftime, including Owen Johnson, Ethan Kelly, Ben Krogman, Thomas Roche, and Isaac Ruiz.

Loras was red-hot from the jump, as sophomore midfielder Cole Bridson scored his first goal of the season only 33 seconds into the match off assists from Reed Miklavcic and Kelly. Bryan Basinger didn't wait long to extend Loras' lead, as he scored his second of the season at the 3:09 mark off another assist from Miklavcic to put the Purple and Gold up two.

Buena Vista (1-6-2, 0-1) fired off its lone shot of the contest in the 27th minute, which was saved by Johnson. The Beavers managed to keep Loras scoreless for the remainder of the half despite facing 17 shots.

Miklavcic scored his fifth goal of the year in the 59th minute of the game off an assist by Michael Koutsopanagos to put Loras up 3-0. Matt Nielson joined in on the scoring in the game's 75th minute, scoring his first of the year.

In the final two minutes of the game, the Duhawks scored twice more. First, it was Diego Rodriguez scoring his first of the year at 88:57, followed by Carson Howe's first on the season at 89:15 to cap off the dominate 6-0 victory.

Game Notes
  • Loras' offensive dominance was on display early and often and is evident by the disparity in shots, as the Duhawks fired off a season-high 35 shots compared to Buena Vista's one.
  • More impressively, of Loras' 35 shots, a season-high 22 came on goal.
  • The Duhawks also dominated in the corners, holding a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.
