RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Loras College men's soccer team defeated the Stars of Dominican University, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at the West Campus Field.
The Duhawks (6-1-3 overall, 1-0 A-R-C) were on the defensive early, as Dominican (5-1-2) took the game's first two shots. However, Loras flipped the script, firing off the next three, with the third ultimately leading to the Duhawks' first goal of the game – a shot from midfielder
Michael Brandt that scored through the low center of the net coming off an assist by
Reed Miklavcic in the game's 11
th minute. The goal signified the first of Brandt's season and the eighth of his career.
Loras and Dominican fired off three and two shots, respectively, over the following 10 minutes before Miklavcic scored his sixth goal of the year on an assist from
Ethan Kelly to push the lead to 2-0.
From that point on, Dominican would record 19 shots over the remainder of the game, putting four on goal, but the Duhawk defense held tough and completed the program's fifth shutout of the year.
Dani Galiana Torres led Loras in shots with four, putting one on goal.
Bryan Basinger was the only other Duhawk to record multiple shots, having two of his own. Goalkeeper
Owen Johnson improved to 5-1-3 on the year after helping shut out the Stars.
