Duhawks Dominate Lumberjacks, 4-0

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College men's soccer program continued their winning ways on Monday evening, trouncing the Lumberjacks of Northland College, 4-0. The victory moves the Duhawks to 3-0 on the year, while Northland College fell to 0-2.

Loras has found ways to score early and often, with tonight's contest being no exception. Nearly three and a half minutes into the game, Michael Koutsopanagos found the right side of the net on a laser nearly 20 yards out after being set up by Dani Galiana Torres.  Koutsopanagos weaved through a Lumberjack defender and set himself up near the middle of the field before striking for his third goal on the year.

In the game's 22nd minutes, Reed Miklavcic connected on his second goal of the season by way of another assist from Galiana Torres. The Duhawks added to their 2-0 lead only six minutes later when freshman defender Merjin van Vilsteren scored his first career goal off of an assist from Carson Woods.

The Duhawks dominated the first half, holding a commanding 3-0 lead and leading the way in shots (15-2) and corners (6-1).

10 minutes into the second half, Northland's Julien Ruoppolo committed a foul that led to an Alex Beausoleil penalty kick. The veteran Duhawk capitalized on that opportunity, sending the ball through on the net's left side for his first goal of the season and Loras' final score of the day.

Game Notes
  • The Duhawks finished the game with nearly six times as many shot attempts than Northland College (29-5).
  • Bryan Basinger, Cole Bridson, and Carson Woods held a three-way tie for the most shots on goal in the game with two apiece.
  • Basinger was the overall top shot taker for both teams, as the junior midfielder finished with five

Up Next: Loras continues its five-game stretch of home games to start the season on Friday when Gustavus Adolphus College comes to town. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start time.
