WAVERLY, Iowa - The Loras College women's tennis team won its first American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) match of the season and of head coach Cam Long's career on Tuesday, defeating the Knights of Wartburg College at a score of 5-4.
In doubles play,
Mary Breitbach and
Dorothy Deans won their match, 8-7, against Natalie Kaiser and Georgia Nissen at the No. 1 spot.
Caroline Hutchinson and
Leia Papanicholas then secured an 8-7 win in the No. 2 doubles match over Reese Williams and Chihiro Ono to give Loras (3-1 overall, 1-0 A-R-C) the 2-0 advantage.
Breitbach kicked things off in singles play, scoring a 6-2, 6-2 win versus Kaiser at No. 1 singles. Hutchison defeated Williams at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-3 and
Clair Moore matched that with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles versus Emma Thurness to seal the 5-4 victory over the Knights (1-1, 0-1).
