DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Loras College men's volleyball team opened up the 2024 season with a 3-0 victory over Concordia University Wisconsin on Friday night inside the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center.
In set one, Loras (1-0) got out to an early 10-6 lead before the Falcons went on a 6-0 run to take a 12-10 lead midway through the set. The Duhawks would regain control and go on a 6-0 run of their own to ultimately win the set 25-19.
Loras raced out to an 8-2 lead to start set two. However, Concordia fought back and cut the Duhawk lead to three (21-18). Loras would score the next three points before winning the set 25-19.
Both teams would go back and forth in set three before the Duhawks went on a 5-1 run to take an 13-9 lead. The Purple and Gold would hold on to their lead the rest of the set to complete the sweep 25-21.
Leading the Loras offense was
Dorian Fiorenza with 13 kills.
Corey Mayotte followed closely behind with nine kills, while
Tyler Kratochvil had five kills to go along with two blocks.
Joe Horn led both teams with 27 assists.
Concordia University Wisconsin (0-1) was led by Spencer Herman who had 12 kills, followed by Andy Ellingham with six.
