Track and Field Teams Sweep Moco Mercer Open

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Competing for the first time in 2024, the Loras College Duhawk track and field teams swept the four-team Moco Mercer Open, hosted by the University of Dubuque, on Saturday afternoon. The men finished competition with a final team score of 163, while the women scored 171.

The men won seven events, highlighted by Matt Kruse's 300 meter race in which the sophomore finished at 35.22, breaking the school record that stood for a decade.

Joe Franke won the 1000 meter at a time of 2:30.9, which stands as the second-fastest time in school history. Derik Bunten won the long jump with a mark of 23'4" (7.11m), which places the junior 11th nationally.

The women won eight events, with Caitlyn Cox's weight throw performance leading the way. Cox threw for 59'9.75" (18.23m), which places her second nationally on the performance list.

The Duhawks went 1-2-3-4 in the long jump, with Emma Seipel winning the event. A transfer from Dubuque, Siepel set a new facility record in her old stomping grounds at a mark of 19'5.5" (5.93m).

Kelly Kohlhof finished second in the 300 meter dash at a time of 42.75, which now stands as the second-fastest mark in program history.
