AURORA, Ill. - The Loras College men's volleyball team continues the 2024 season with another 3-0 victory, this time over Aurora University on Saturday afternoon inside Thornton Gymnasium.
In set one, Aurora (0-2) was able to start with an early 5-1 lead before the Duhawks went on multiple 4-0 runs to hold a 9-6 advantage at the beginning of the set. The Duhawks would take complete control and score three points to every singular Spartan point. Loras (3-0) would ultimately win the set 25-16.
The Purple and Gold jumped out to a 5-2 lead in set two. However, Aurora was able to fight back and tie things up at 10-10. Loras would start to separate themselves the next few points before winning the set 25-19.
Once again, the Duhawks led 5-2 early in the set, but the Spartans kept things close. This would be the case for the rest of the set, with Loras extending the lead just for Aurora to fight back and cut it to one. The Purple and Gold would keep their lead the rest of the set to complete the sweep 25-22.
Leading the Loras offense was
Corey Mayotte with 13 kills.
Sean Wenzel followed behind with seven kills, while
Dorian Fiorenza had five kills to go along with six digs.
Joe Horn led both teams with 26 assists.
Aurora University was led by Mateo Scharosch who had nine kills, followed by Connor Carroll with eight.
