MADISON, Wis. – The No. 8 Loras College men's volleyball team secured its fifth victory of the season with a 3-1 win over Edgewood College on Tuesday night inside the Todd Wehr Edgedome.
The opening set featured three lead changes and the score tied eight times. The largest lead either squad held throughout the opening set was just three points. Fifth-year senior
Dorian Fiorenza put down the final two kills of the set to give the Duhawks the 28-26 victory.
Loras (5-0 overall) started off slow in set two, falling behind, 5-1, early on. The Duhawks trailed by six multiple times during the set and were able to get within three, but ultimately fell 18-25.
The Purple and Gold took down Edgewood (1-2) with ease in sets three and four by scores of 25-14 and 25-12, respectively.
Fiorenza led Loras with 18 kills, four service aces, and 11 digs.
Corey Mayotte added in 10 kills and hit .500 percent in just two sets of play, while
Tyler Kratochvil tallied seven kills and two blocks.
Joe Horn totaled 19 assists, while
Brady Oberfoell finished with a game-high 17 digs. As a team, the Duhawks hit .244, which featured 50 kills and 19 errors in 127 attempts.
The Eagles were led by Gavin Patterson who put down 11 kills and totaled 14 digs. Ryder Hill-Zastrow followed closely behind with nine kills and 13 digs, while Will Gehrke dished out a game-high 30 assists in the loss. As a team, Edgewood hit .184, finishing with 40 kills and 19 errors in 114 attempts.
