WAVERLY, Iowa –
Tyler Bass dropped a season-high 23 points, while
Declan Ciurlik matched his 2023-24 high with 20 as the No. 20 Loras College Duhawks earned a season sweep over the Wartburg College Knights with an 81-66 victory on Wednesday night inside of Levick Arena.
Loras (17-2 overall, 8-2 American Rivers Conference) has won its last seven road games and has won three of its last four in Waverly.
Bass was 8-for-11 (72.7 percent) from the floor, including 2-of-3 (66.7 percent) from beyond the arc. The Washington, Ill. native hauled in eight rebounds, while also dishing out two assists in 31 minutes of action.
Ciurlik nailed six threes, matching his career high. The senior guard out of Mequon, Wis. was 7-of-11 (63.6 percent) from the field, with his six three point makes coming off nine attempts (66.7 percent).
Jack Haynes fell just short of a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
With the win, the Duhawks continue to sit second in the American Rivers Conference standings, leading third-place Central by a game.
Wartburg (3-18, 2-10) was led by Marshun Williams wtih 21 points, followed by Isaac Besh and Carter Cuvelier with 14 points each.
The Knights led for most of the game (23:07), with its last lead coming at 51-50 with 11:36 to play, but it was all Loras from there on out. Over the final 10 minutes of play, Ciurlik scored 12 while Bass added in 10 to lead the Duhawks to a 31-15 closeout run.
One week after having its 13-game win streak snapped by (RV) Coe College, the Duhawks have regained some momentum with 17 days left in the regular season.
Coming up next for Loras is Central College, who the Duhawks will face Saturday, Feb. 3. Tip is set for 4 p.m. inside of P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium in Pella.
