DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's volleyball team defeated Beloit College, 3-1, in a nonconference contest on Tuesday night.
In the opening set, Loras (11-11, 1-2 A-R-C) used a 6-0 run to gain an 11-5 lead that it would hold onto and extend throughout the rest of the set. The Purple and Gold led by 14 twice, ultimately grabbing the set one win by a score of 25-12.
The Duhawks continued their dominance in set two, rattling off seven straight points to begin the set. Loras cruised to a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-11 win in the second set.
Beloit (2-15, 0-2 Midwest) posted a six-point run early on in set three to take a 9-4 lead. The Buccaneers increased their lead to as many as nine (18-9) and withstood the attempted comeback from the Duhawks to earn a 25-22 set three win.
The Purple and Gold got back on track in set four, breaking the final tie at 7-7 with a 3-0 run to take a 10-7 lead. Loras held the advantage for the remainder of the set, closing out the set with an 8-1 run to take the match with a 25-16 set four victory.
Autumn Finch led the way for the Duhawks, putting down a game-high nine kills, while also registering three blocks on the night.
Cat Meyer added in eight kills of her own, while
Sara Hoskins and
Emily Mohr divided the setter duties, dishing out 16 assists apiece. As a team, Loras hit .287, finishing with 47 kills and 16 errors in 108 attempts.
Up Next: The Duhawks return to action on Friday, Oct. 18 for a nonconference match against the Ripon College Red Hawks. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center.
