Box Score DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's tennis team fell 6-1 to Coe College in a Duhawk vs. Kohawk battle on Wednesday afternoon at the Tucker Tennis Courts.
The Duhawks opened with a strong fight in doubles play but were unable to secure the doubles point. The No. 2 and No. 3 spots fell by narrow margins, with both pairs losing 6-3.
Mary Breitbach and
Dorothy Deans played a nail-biter but ultimately came up short, losing 7-5 in the match tiebreaker. The Duhawks headed into singles down 1-0.
Loras was unable to get the tides to turn its way in singles play. Deans fell at the No. 2 spot to Addison Leasure 6-0, 6-0, while Breitbach lost at the No. 1 spot to Sophia Fain 6-1, 6-1. In the No. 3 spot,
Leia Papanicholas put up a fight against Alliandra Hagness, but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-2.
Caroline Hutchinson lost at the No. 4 spot 6-1, 6-4 to Alice Tysoe, while
Alexis Tatum was defeated by Jaden Fuqua 6-1, 6-2. The lone victory for the Purple and Gold came from
Ellie Kalina at the No. 5 spot, as she outlasted Carlie Miller 4-6, 6-1, 12-10.
UP NEXT: The Duhawks will play a homecoming weekend full of road matches as they face Northwestern College and Buena Vista University at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. respectively on Friday, Oct. 4. They conclude their road trip with their final conference match of the fall against Nebraska Wesleyan University at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5
