DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's volleyball took down Wartburg College in four sets on Wednesday evening inside the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center.
In the opening set, the Duhawks rattled off five consecutive points to take a 5-2 lead early on. The Knights trailed Loras (13-11, 2-2 A-R-C) for a majority of the set until they used a 4-0 run to take a 17-15 lead. The Purple and Gold responded with a six-point run of their own to regain the lead (21-17) and would hold onto it to earn a 25-21 set one victory.
Wartburg (13-9, 3-1) broke the final tie at 19-19 in the second set with back-to-back points to take a 21-19 lead. The Knights knotted the match up at one set apiece with a 25-21 set two win.
The visitors erased a three-point Loras lead (18-15) with a 7-1 run to hold a 22-19 advantage late in set three. The Duhawks worked their way back tying the score up at 23-23 and 24-24, before securing the 26-24 set win thanks to a block from
Elaina Schroeder and
Kyra Kuehn and a Wartburg attack error.
In the final set, Loras led by as many as six (22-16), but the Knights posted an 8-2 run to tie things up at 24-24. The Duhawks ultimately took set four by a score of 29-27 following kills from
Sophie Younkin,
Sara Hoskins and
Cat Meyer, which grabbed the last three points of the set.
Younkin and
Autumn Finch led the Duhawk offense putting down 16 and 13 kills on the night respectively. Schroeder and Meyer added in nine kills apiece, while Hoskins handed out 49 assists.
Lucie Lambe totaled 22 digs, while Finch added four blocks to her stat line. As a team, Loras hit .149, finishing with 58 kills and 31 errors in 181 attempts.
Up Next: The Duhawks travel to Decorah, Iowa to take on the Luther College Norse on Saturday, Oct. 26. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
