DECORAH, Iowa – The Loras College women's volleyball team defeated the Luther College Norse in five sets on Saturday afternoon.
The Norse used a four-point run in the opening set to take an 8-5 lead that they would hold onto and extend for the remainder of the set. Luther (5-22 overall, 1-6 A-R-C) took a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-18 set one win.
The Duhawks raced out to a 6-1 lead in set two, but the Norse worked their way back to take a 13-11 lead midway through the set. Loras (14-11, 3-2) broke the final tie at 16-16 with a 5-0 run to hold a 21-16 advantage. A kill from
Autumn Finch sealed the 25-20 set two victory for the Purple and Gold.
The home team held a 6-1 lead early on, but the Duhawks persevered and rattled off six consecutive points to take an 18-15 lead. Loras led 24-21, but the Norse posted five straight points to take the third set 26-24.
Loras dominated in set four, leading Luther from start to finish. The Duhawks led by as many as eight (13-5), ultimately taking the set by a score of 25-20.
The Purple and Gold overcame a 6-4 deficit in the final set with a 4-0 run to take an 8-6 lead. The Duhawks took the match with a 15-10 set five win.
Finch paced the Loras offense with 20 kills, hitting .474 percent on the night.
Sophie Younkin and
Cat Meyer added in 12 kills apiece, while
Elaina Schroeder rounded out the double-digit hitters with 10 kills.
Sara Hoskins dished out 51 assists, while
Lucie Lambe totaled 28 digs. As a team, the Duhawks hit .258, finishing with 62 kills and 21 errors in 159 attempts.
