Box Score 2 ORANGE CITY/STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Loras College women's tennis team split two road matches against Northwestern College and Buena Vista University on Friday.
Northwestern 5, Loras 2
The Duhawks (5-7 overall, 2-5 A-R-C) came up short and did not earn a win in doubles play against the Raiders (3-0 overall, 0-0 GPAC).
In singles play, the Purple and Gold tried to battle back but came up short to Northwestern as the Duhawks only secured two singles wins.
Caroline Hutchinson defeated Ainslie Robinson in a tiebreaker by scores of 1-6, 6-2, and 1-0 (10-3). Earning the only other singles point was by way of
Alexis Tatum as she defeated Alloree Else in a tiebreaker match 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, and 1-0 (10-8).
Loras 7, Buena Vista 0
Later in the day, the Duhawks traveled to Storm Lake, Iowa for another A-R-C matchup where they dominated the Beavers 7-0.
Dorothy Deans and
Mary Breitbach came out strong, securing the doubles point in the No. 1 spot with a 6-1 win over Macy Weller and Taylor Fritz. The two other pairs of doubles would follow suit as
Leia Papanicholas and
Ellie Kalina defeated Abigail King and Hailey Meseck in the No. 2 spot by a score of 6-1. Hutchinson and Tatum would round out doubles play with a 6-1 victory in the No. 3 spot over Fiona Astleford and Suyeon Kang.
Loras went into singles play with a 1-0 lead and never looked back. In the No. 1 spot Breitbach took down Weller by scores of 6-0 in both matches. Deans at the No. 2 spot defeated Meseck by scores of 6-2 and 6-0. Papanicholas in the No. 3 spot was victorious over Fritz by scores of 6-2 in both matches. Hutchinson added to the win streak as she defeated King in both sets by a score of 6-0. Tatum solidified the victory as she took down Kang by scores of 6-0 in both matches.
Up Next: The Purple and Gold have a quick turnaround as they travel to Nebraska Wesleyan University on Saturday, Oct. 5 to take on the Prairie Wolves. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
